Howdy Folks,
Summer has burst upon us with a tease of heat and then pulled back just to show us who's boss. Embrace this cool weather and hope it means chill dancing at the Topsham Grange Saturday night. Great sleeping weather too.
This Saturday will be the last Topsham Family Dance of the Season so bring out the fam & their friends. If you play an instrument at any ability please join the band.
My earliest Maine contradance experiences really set the vibe for me, with input from what seemed almost total chaos in the sweat of the 'Ham dances to the strict classic sense of the dance with Ted Sanella these local bands, callers & dancers then on the scene changed my life.
Such fun my then wife Lizzy thought we oughta start a dance in Freeport so we started working with all the Maine bands of the time but also folks from away in the little Freeport Grange.
Moving the dance from 2nd Saturday Freeport dance & the 4th Saturday Portland Dance to North Yarmouth's Wescustogo Hall and adding the 5th Saturdays really upped the game and soon we were having more & more and different bands.
That's about when Einstein's Little Homunculus came to Maine and wow, what a difference a little ole horn section makes! Their klezma roots gave the band 's trad tunes a wallop unlike anything I'd heard ever.
It's so easy to Google n YouTube 'em, there is no excuse to not give em a listen.
There's been a lot of fantastic bands emerge in the scene through the decades I've been hanging about and I gotta say these folks still got it goin' on, Come on out to Topsham Saturday give your feet n ears a treat.
Be well, see ya there, Jeff
