On Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00 am, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation will hold a ceremony to welcome Army Sergeant Christy Gardner to a mortgage-free, Smart Home. The home is located at 22 Moxie’s Place, Oxford, Maine 04270. (Address is new and unavailable on GPS. Please use 11 Snell Lane, Oxford, Maine 04270 for navigation.) As always, we’d like to invite Patriot Guard Riders to attend and participate. Patriot Guard Riders attend each and every one of our home dedications, usually taking part in the escort/procession, and/or providing a flag line.
This home is being constructed by Tunnel to Towers through A Soldier’s Journey Home, a group comprising over 500 volunteers from 14 states, over a two-week period.
On June 22, 2006, while serving as a military police officer on a peacekeeping mission in Asia, Sergeant Gardner was severely injured while on foot patrol. She suffered skull fractures, severe internal injuries, spinal cord damage that caused paralysis below her knees, and eventually the amputation of both legs.
Christy’s focus is currently on this summer’s Paralympic Games in Tokyo. She is training to compete in both the discus and shot put. She is currently ranked second in the world in the shot put. When Christy isn’t competing, her time and talent are dedicated to Mission Working Dogs, a nonprofit organization she created that trains purpose-bred dogs to improve the lives of handlers who are living with a disability.
Construction on the Oxford, Maine home will begin on June 7.
As always, we'd be honored if PGR would attend and participate in this home dedication. I look forward to hearing from you, and, of course, look forward to seeing you at the ceremony. Thank you."
Staging for the procession will take place in the lot of Oxford Plains Speedway (785 Main St, Oxford, ME 04270) at 10:00 am on 6/19!
