Dear Friends of Mainers with Disabilities,

Please contact members of the Maine congressional delegation now (regardless of whether you’ve contacted them before) to ask them to support Home and Community Based Services in the reconciliation bill. The message is:

1. HCBS funding *must* be included in any reconciliation bill

2. The funding level must be at least the $190 billion that the House Energy and Commerce Committee recommended, but preferably $250 billion, which is what would be required to address the twin crises of waiting lists and Direct Support Professionals wages

3. The duration of the policy must be at least 10 years. Otherwise, states don’t have the time and certainty they need to make the necessary changes to get HCBS to people who need it, to support family caregivers, and to better compensate workers. Shorter durations will threaten the investment of the funding to achieve these goals.
