I was at Essex Marsh today as well, but early this morning for lots of sitings in the cold. Many golden-crowned kinglets, yellow-rumped warblers, palm warblers, red-winged blackbirds, grackles, tree swallows & mallards; 1 male wood duck, 1 male hooded merganser, 1 kingfisher. A pair of Canada geese flew in, much to the dismay of the resident couple who managed to persuade them to leave after much chasing & honking. There were other swallows that I think might be rough-winged swallows. Two male downy woodpeckers were having a lengthy discussion, while a northern harrier scouted the marsh & a flicker flew by. Great egrets were not visible this morning.
