Any wishing for an up close look at a Green-winged Teal should stop by Grist Mill Park in Yarmouth. One male associating with a flock of Mallard near the dam in the lower section of the park. The other ducks responded to someone tossing food and the teal followed them over, coming within ten feet of the people feeding, though not feeding on the tossed food itself.
Closest I’ve been to one, personally. The size difference is really remarkable. The teal did not flush when I moved around but stayed pretty close in to shore.
So if you’re interested get some dried peas or cracked corn or other duck healthy food and head on over! Best light is probably around 2 o’clock.
Happy birding,
Ian in Pownal
