Kestrel, Geese, and Blue Birds - Benton - Sebasticook River north of the dam

Spring is here for many birds.  The geese are flying up river at about
300 feet up honking away as they return to their nesting area from the
corn fields each evening.  There was a kestrel flying fast and  low on
this windy day.  They usually nest in the barn eaves.

Blue birds checked out a tree swallow box that was checked out a few
days ago by some English sparrows.  The tree swallows usually return
around the 9th of April and kick everyone out of the boxes.  The tree
swallows usually arrive about 2 weeks after they are first reported in
Gardiner.   Barn swallows return around the 9th of May.

I walked along the Sebasticook I saw about 6 goldeneye diving for fish. 
An immature eagle flew low and spooked them into flight and they
returned quickly.  That was all activity along the river today.

There was usually goldfinch, chickadee, and sparrows at the bird
feeder.  Two starlings flew into an old feed pipe sticking out of the
barn.  A few rock pigeon were picking under the sunflower feeder.  We
had one mass of pigeon feathers on the ground two weeks ago.  I assume a
hawk or owl had a meal.
