Does anyone know why FeederWatch and eBird are sometimes tagging pigeons as rare on bird counts? Because as much as I wish they were…they sure aren’t.

eBird recently made changes to how how exotic species are displayed:

When searching for Rock Pigeon I now see two entries in the eBird app. `Rock Pigeon` and `Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon)`. What you are seeing is probably people incorrect reporting the first, which would indeed be rare, rather than reporting the second, the more likely feral population.

I definitely chose the feral option - so they must just have a bug in the new system.  I thought it was faintly ridiculous to justify my 13 pigeon count for FeederWatch ;)
