At about 1:45 this afternoon, as I was approaching Norridgewock from the west on Rte. 2, I noticed a number of large objects on the ridge to the south, behind the farm where the Caracara was earlier this year. I thought they might be Cranes, so I spun around and stopped. I counted 27, and there may have been others just out of sight. This is by far the largest flock of Sandhill Cranes I've seen in the State. Louis Bevier was going to head over that way and see if he could observe them. I have not heard from him, yet. I believe this is more evidence that the breeding status of this species in Maine continues to improve.
