This week’s birding column in the Bangor Daily News is a twofer: http://bangordailynews.com/2012/12/28/outdoors/whale-watching-trip-perfect-for-ignoring-whales-watching-birds/

Not only is it about pelagic birding on Bar Harbor Whale Watch, but it’s also an invitation to try a new event from the Penobscot Valley Chapter of Maine Audubon. Zack Klyver is presenting a program on whales at the Sea Dog in Bangor this coming Friday night at 7pm. It combines two of my favorite concepts: nature and beer. The program is free. The beer isn’t. We’ll get two chances to see how successful this type of social/educational event is because on February 1st, we’ll try it again: “Bears and Beers” with state bear biologist Randy Cross.

Hello Bob,

Would have been nice if you mentioned a  real  Pelagic trip coming up on January 19th, 2013 .  The SeaBC is drawing people from around the country and Maine.............. so this Pelagic trip is a real thing not a virtual experience.

The Gulf of Maine SeaBC is not free,     there will be NO BEER.... but there will be very real birds, possibly whales, if we have a window that allows us out beyond Mount Desert  Rock.....  and it will be COLD.....(hand warmers and long johns recommended) .
I guarantee excellent birds to start off your New Year bird list.

New Hampshire Public TV will be joining us to record this adventure and I am personally excited to be back on the water for the 3rd SeaBC................ recording regional birds for our general knowledge and understanding of GOM.

I definitely recommend joining my friend Zack Klyver... but I also highly recommend calling me and making plans for the 3rd Gulf of Maine SeaBC during the weekend  of January 19th.  (See attachment) There are a few seats open.
