Maine Audubon just received a first of season report of a wing-tagged gull-this one a Great Black-backed Gull banded on Sable Island, Nova Scotia and being eaten by a Bald Eagle on Swan's Island in Maine.

Just a reminder that banded and color marked birds can be reported at www.reportband.gov. Once the Bander has been located, you will receive a report of where and when your bird was banded.

Researchers depend on these reports to track movements of the species they study.

I maintain contacts with several banders, so if anyone wants to contact me, I may be able to make a more direct connection for you.

Hi Stella,

Thanks for posting this.  The Herring Gulls that we banded in Portland and Wood Island have either a blue or orange field readable band (and a metal band on the other leg).  Our codes have three letters.  This year we banded about 140 adults/chicks.
