Hello all,
I want to follow up on Scott Richardson's inquiry about a listserv on Maine butterflies. While there is not a general interest listserv on the butterflies of our state, there are some other lists that might be of interest.
MassLeps
This list is maintained by the Massachusetts Butterfly Club, a very active organization. Posts to this listserv usually are lists of species or identification tips. The overlap of the Maine and Massachusetts butterfly fauna is great although our flight seasons tend to run a week or so behind Massachusetts. Sometimes trip reports of excursions to Maine are reported on MassLeps. Expect fairly heavy traffic during the flight season (well over 10 posts a day).
VTLeps
This list was created to facilitate communication among the volunteers of the Vermont Butterfly Survey. Now that the survey is finished, the list has evolved to general natural history of Vermont butterflies (I suspect MaineLeps will evolve in a similar way once the Maine Butterfly Survey is finished next year). The Maine and Vermont butterfly faunas are nearly identical. You can find information on subscribing at http://list.uvm.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=VTLEPS
NELeps
This group is for the more scientifically-inclined and includes both butterflies and moths. Anyone is welcome to join including butterfly watchers, breeders, naturalists, conservations and gardeners with an interest in the more scientific side of lepidopterology in the northeastern region of the U.S. The group is less than a year old and has very low traffic so far. If you are interested in subscribing, contact the moderator, Harry Pavulaan at NEl...@yahoogroups.com
Best,
Herb
