Friends: What time of the evening compared to sunset do whip-poor-wills begin singing at K'bunk Plains? Same as woodcock, or ...??

Thanks.

Dusk is good, but a good clear moonlit night is best! They will sing through the night with those conditions.

When I would go to Fuller Farm in Scarborough for Woodcock, the Woodcock
would start around the 20 minutes after sunset time.  About 10 minutes
later the Snipe would display and about 10 minutes after that the
Whip-poor-will would call.  This progression seemed pretty consistent
the times when all three were present.

 Charles,

Guidance from Pam Hunt of New Hampshire Audubon on monitoring Whip-poor-wills (as part of their research Project) recommended that you time your visit for best listening opportunities to the full moon period in May and June. Whips seem to be most vocal then.
When Bob and I were monitoring along Ossipee Lake Road in Ossipee, NH's pine barrens, we would get in position 15 minutes after the full moon just began to rise and their was minimal cloud cover. It was magical - a full moon and Whips.
Enjoy,
Dana
