May 31, Owlsboro Road, Dexter - I got a late start for a morning walk. It was obvious when I started that I was the answer to the mosquitoes' breakfast prayer. The heat was rising and I almost turned back. I heard several kinds of Warblers. There are many BLUE-HEADED VIREOS in the area and one was singing conveniently from a dead tree. As I got near Lily Pond, I saw a bird on the path which flew up into a tree. It was a BARRED OWL! I watched and then it flew across in front of me and landed low in a tree a few feet away. The coloring and pattern of its feathers was beautiful. The time was 9:45 AM and I watched it for a long time.
