Hello,

New in this group, but a long time Mailsmith user (about 20 years).

Today, I try using Mailsmith to handle my @gmail.com account, so far unsuccessfully, whatever the settings are. My ID and password are simply not accepted.

Is there some here who can presently use Mailsmith for Gmail, and if yes, what are the settings?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I don't; but here is Google's help page in case it is useful: <https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7104828?hl=en>.

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they sedate me.

Hello Rich,

Thank you very much for your reply. I tried to follow Google's suggestions you mentioned on this topic , but it still does not work. I am a bit more concerned since I read the above statement:

*****
To help keep your account secure, from May 30, 2022, Google no longer supports the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password.
*****

I am less optimistic.

Although I have a gmail account, I rarely use it except for
testing. About a year ago it stopped working with Mailsmith so I
switched to Apple Mail. I don't think you are going to get
Mailsmith to work with gmail anymore.

Hi David,

What you noticed is unfortunately consistent with Google's above statement. :-(

I believe you can use an "app password" and get around this.

Once you create it, you'll use it in place of your "real" password when logging in.

This is supposed to be much safer because...

1. The 3rd party does not have your "real" password.
2. Being able to generate different passwords for different apps allows you to "firewall" the breach if an app password is compromised.

I've been able to use them for apps without native Gmail OAuth style logins.

Good luck!

Hello Ruffin,

Sorry for my late reply - abroad and busy when back.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion which works perfectly - and
therefore, I did receive your message from MailSmith, too. :-)

Kudos for this nice tip and thank you for your kind help on
behalf of MailSmith users.

Best regards,
