MS 2.3.1 import chokes (filters makes reference to nonexistent mailboxes)

Like others I am looking for a Eudora replacement. Mailsmith seems a
lot more robust than the alternatives. But I am having problems
importing emails from Eudora.

I get about 20 mailboxes imported and then get an error message:

"One of more of the imported filters makes references to nonexistent
mailboxes."

And, the import stops. Mailboxes are there, but no mail. After 20
years of using Eudora, I suspect I have lots of filters referencing
deleted mailboxes. What do I do?

Further, looking at some emails that did import, they display as HTML
and not text with graphics, and I cannot send them to my browser.

What to do?
