HTML getting stripped?

Hi all,

Has anyone seen this? I've setup up my mailing lists, category
manager, and so on so that when I create a post, an email is
automatically sent out with the body of the post. Great feature.

However, there seems to be a problem now (with the latest version):
No HTML comes through! The template graphics come through fine, but
no HTML that I add appears in the email. I first noticed because no
images that I posted appeared in the email, then I tested with just
setting italic and bold HTML tags. They don't appear in the email
either. Seems all HTML is getting stripped out.

But, if I send an email manually through MailPress (using the "New
Mail" menu item), HTML appears fine in the email!

No idea what I'm doing wrong. I've scoured the various option pages.
I see nothing that would cause this.

Any clues?

Shucks, that was a good idea (especially since there's that handy
"MailPress Test" widget on the post edit page now), but,
unfortunately, no...still stripping the HTML. :-(

You can also see this when you click on the "View sent mail" link in
the little widget.

Does the functionality from the Post edit page simply take the
contents of the post field (I don't know what the real name is in the
database) and format it within the template? Could there be a
stripped out version of the data in the database duplicated? I find
this hard to believe, but you'd think this would be an easy one to
track down.

By the way, I tested this with multiple sites on HostGator...same
problem.

Again, works great from from the "New Mail" interface.

did you activate the logs ?

anything in there ?

Anything special here? I don't think so. I sent the mail from the
Edit Post page using the "Send" button in the "MailPress Test"
widget. Yep, it's in the mail list. HTML stripped out in all places.

I just noticed that 4.01 was released. I was hoping there would be a
magic fix, but it still has the same behavior.

Not an expert, but I spent a good deal of time last week playing with
the software to figure it out. Very powerful stuff.

What theme are you using? Which page template are you testing? What
kind of html tags do you have that are getting stripped?

Here's some more info:

Using the "oriental" theme (it's available at the WP.org themes
page). I've tried the basic WP ones; same result.
Using the "Mailpress Classic" template (but have tried all).
By the way, I've also tried different mailing methods ("Mailpress
version of wp_mail" option)

HTML tags that I've noticed getting stripped:

"<img ..." - this is the one where I first noticed the problem. No
images were coming in.
"<ul>"
"<li>"
"<em>"
"<strong>" - just tested with basic formatting ones to confirm it was
an HTML issue.

OK, I tested with E_ALL. One very interesting thing happened: ALL
text was missing from the Edit Post generated email. The only thing
that came through was the name of the post. Keep in mind that I'm not
publishing any of these posts, just using the "MailPress Test"
widget. I tested with publishing before...makes no difference.

When I turned off logging, the email text reappeared again, but with
stripped HTML tags.

I saw some warnings (near the top) with NEXTGen gallery so I disabled
it. No change.

I've pasted the log below. There's nothing really that I can see.
The HTML is coming through as I'm seeing it. Well, in this case, none
of my posting text is coming through (seems to be a conflict with
E_ALL).

Can't tell what's going on from this sample, the output above doesn't
include anything but the permalink to the post.

Hi Valerama,

Yep, that's exactly what I'm seeing in the emails. From the Edit Post
page, that's the result I get. Creating and sending a mail from the
"New Mail" page in MailPress works fine.

Hi Andre,

It's impossible not to have a Mailpress or a WordPress theme, isn't
it? Seems there's no way around this one.

Check your MP theme's file: post.php. Is it calling all of the
following?

the_title()
the_permalink()
the_time()
the_excerpt_rss()

If those are all good, check your single.php file and verify that it's
calling : <?php include($this->build->dir . 'post.php'); ?>

(Once you understand the structure of the templates, it's very easy to
build one that matches your website.)
