mail will not send

The error I get after trying to test my smtp settings is "FAILED.
Check your logs & settings !"
No matter what smtp settings i use, i get the same message. These
smtp settings work fine with my Mail program. Please help.

I don't know what to be looking for to determine to error. Do you
have an idea why the mail is not going through?
