Cannot import from csv file previously exported via mailpress

I exported all users with the plugin for MP (5.4.2) into CSV, the only export option.

deleted MP, installed MP 7.0.2 and tried importing from CSV with the plugin. 

After clicking import, the new page just shows:

Import Csv

Mailing list

Optional, you can import the MailPress users in a specific mailing list ...

Ok here is my answer :

As far as i have checked, there is no changes in the structure of mysql mailpress tables from 5.4 to 7.0.2.
So you do not need to export and import using csv files. a sql backup/restore with phpmyadmin (for instance) should be enough.

So if you have a backup of your db, you should be able to have those sql files.

About import/export

The export in a csv file gives a file with Comma Separated Values ... which is not that cool when some strings inside the file have ... commas !
The file produced is not a backup file !!!

The import (whether it is in CSV or Excel format) just imports an email and optionally a name per line, every other columns are inserted as a custom field for the corresponding mp user.
The is just a small tool to import external files ...

So Import is not a restore process (otherwise i would have name it Restore :-) !

Hope this helps (and that you still have a backup of your db)

As a reminder, major changes from MailPress v5 to v7 is
* PHP 7

* some add-ons not supported any more

* End of support of PHP Mail (deprecated by swiftmailer in v6 (php7))

* All files in tmp folder are copied in wp-content/uploads
* All files in mp-content/advanced are replicated in wp-content/uploads (one copy per blog)

Thanks, that clarifies a few issues. For anyone reading this, here is everything I did, including the mistakes so you can learn from them. 

Seeing that mp 5.x and 7.x both seemed to reside withing a folder with the same name: mailpress and I couldn't do a wordpress plugin update except for simply overwriting the actualy files of mp via upload I disabled and deleted the 5.x version from within WP so as not to have any leftover files from mp 5.x

I then installed mp 7.x and activated it, activated the required mp plugins, set it all up and it worked perfectly only to realize that all my subscribers were gone.

I then restored the entire VPS as it only hosts this one WP site. I then logged on and exported the subscribers via the mp plugin: import/export.

BIG mistake, this is where I should have done a mysqldump. 

I now have to somehow "save" my mp configuration, restore that old backup, do the mysqldump or export of the subscribers via phpmyadmin, then start from scratch again. 

But all in all, it sounds doable :-)

If you have deleted the plugin from WordPress, you have activated the uninstall process which delete every information stored in the wp db related to MailPress ...

Be carefull because some MailPress data are also stored in wp tables such as postmeta, usermeta, taxonomies etc ...

For more information you can take a look at uninstall.php

So make a full recovery of your wp db !

It looks like the newsletter doesn't work. It is supposed to send out posts from a specific category in a daily newsletter but its saying "( 0 ) no recipients" - any ideas?

Thanks for pointing that out. I have 2 newsletters, one per post (with an informational category where there rarely is a post) and a daily one. 

3423 active users, they seem subscribed to both newsletters: https://take.ms/tj7Bu

This is the result after that .csv import via SQL you helped me with, I never double checked afterwards, just tried sending the newsletter out again.

I spot checked a couple of users via editing them and they are indeed subscribed to those newsletters: https://take.ms/OlkYn - really unsure waht is wrong here.

best is

1) back up the database (should be done regularly)

2) delete from the mailpress user tables all the waiting (2023) Bounced (1384) Unsubscribed (697)

DELETE FROM xx_mailpress_users WHERE status <> 'active'

3) export using Csv_export

4) edit csv file (excel libreoffice) and delete all columns except email and name

5) set your default newsletters in MailPress settings

6) Import modified csv file

this should do the trick
