Using Deadline 10.1.16.9. After getting the same failure when trying to use the installer as Luca and Andrea on the Python 2.7 build of H18.5.596, I followed the manual steps laid out as described in the linked documentation. On creating a deadline ROP, Houdini will now hang for 30 - 45 seconds then errors with the following message:
I used submission installer from Deadline 10.1.14.5 submission/houdini/installers folder. I looked at a number of posts on this topic. The python2.7libs folder is in place. All applications: client, monitor, etc. are installed. Any help would be appreciated.

The V-Ray installer automatically removes any previous installations. Thus, you can seamlessly upgrade from previous versions. If you experience problems, you can manually uninstall the previous versions to perform a clean install.
I'm currently making a custom built Android Marshmallow x86 64 on a mini PC. I've successfully installed the Android and now I'm trying to install libhoudini on the rig so that it can play ARM apps and games (porting the apps to x86 is not possible since they are 3rd party apps). How do I install and use it? When I go to its Github repo, it only has links with .sfs files in it. And also there is no documentation or tutorial whatsoever about how to install and use it.
For android x86 64 bit Oreo, I first downloaded houdini.sfs( [ -
x86.org/houdini.php?v=9_y][1] or any other link you trust) version 9y for 64 then enabled native bridge in androidx86 settings. Afterwards I downloaded a root browser to move houdini.sfs file to system/etc/ but before moving it, I renamed it to houdini9_y.sfs. When the file is moved to system/etc/ then you can go to the command line (ALT+F1 to go to your system console ALT+F6/7 to go back to the android interface.) Type in system/bin/su to grant you root privileges then type in system/bin/enable_nativebridge. You should be done after that and apps should work that require libhoudini on it. This worked for me on a lenovo x carbon 1 running android-x86_64-9.0-r2.iso installtion.
After installing Houdini, SideFX checks the license key with a server launching on our PC in the background. But when we install it in Garuda, the server does not launch. It is because the installer want to create the file sesinetd in the folder /etc/init.d
Yeah the registered commands line is really suspect here, or what came before it. Most likely commands are being fetched from the server/config. Also I see they are being written to xml, which is how Houdini reads them. Check out tk-houdini/python/tk_houdini/ui_generation.py
Attempting to install Houdini under Linux Mint 17.1. This is a clean install, with nVidia drivers loaded, and just about nothing else done to it yet. I'm running it with the default Administrator level user account. Installation seemed straightforward enough, but running anything would cause a seg-fault. It turned out that I can sudo-run-anything just fine, it'll only segfault when it doesn't have root permissions. This seems to include hkey, houdini itself, hqueue.
I think the occasional bug where the installer accidentally creates a $HOME/houdiniX.Y directory bug has cropped up again. Please submit steps to reproduce. ie. the options you selected in the installer which led to /houdini14.0 being created with root permissions.
The only problem now is, I'm still having to manually run commands like "sudo /opt/hqueue/scripts/hqserverd restart" to get the HQueue server and client services to run. I assumed these would be configured to start automatically by default, but either they're not by design, or something in the installer process is going wrong.
Confirmed it's a 16 bit height map. I was reading its possible to procedurally refine the terrain inside Unigine using Houdini Engine. But the Houdini installer didn't give an option for an Unigine version. Need I to download in some other specific location?

First, you have to install multiple versions. As you probably already know, the MtoA installer always wants to uninstall first. I take care of that by zapping the Uninstall registry entry with this command:
Next you'll download and run the installer for Non-Commercial RenderMan (NCR). The installer will prompt you for your User Name and Password for the RenderMan Forums, so have that information ready.
When you have logged in, please proceed by clicking the "Download Installer" button below. Once the installer (about 10mb) has successfully downloaded, simply run the installer and follow the instructions ... The installer will download the bulk of the software (from 500mb to 1gig depending on your configuration), so please be patient. When the installer is finished, RenderMan should be licensed for you and ready to go.
In order to use Git, you first have to install it. Every modern Linux distribution has a Git package. Use your choice of package manager to install it. On Windows download and install Git on Windows, on OS X do the same with git-osx-installer.
