Hi,

I have a problem that is bugging me to no end. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have 2 RHEL4 boxes with different versions of net-snmp and net-snmp-utils.

Both are successfully able to snmpwalk various devices including,
linux hosts, windows hosts, F5 load balancers and others.

Now i am attempting to setup some snmp polling of a Cisco Catalyst router.

The response from both my systems is the same:

snmpwalk -v2c -c public 192.168.x.x
SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2 = No more variables left in this MIB View (It is
past the end of the MIB tree).

Now here is where I would start suspecting the SNMP configuration on
the router (group permissions etc). The thing that makes me discount
this is that one of the hosts has a commercial product that is able to
snmp poll the router successfully.

I can do a tcpdump and generate packets that appear to be the same
from both the commerical product and the various snmp utils yet the
snmpwalk fails.

I have added cisco mibs into /usr/share/snmp/mibs/ - though my
understanding is i should get some results back even if i have no
mibs?

I have googled much for a resolution to this issue and have had no success.

Thanks for any help.

That definitely sounds like access control, yes,

Using what SNMP version/community string?

What *are* the access control settings on the router?

Correct.
The MIBs on the client side are purely concerned with how to
best display the results. They have absolutely no effect on
what information is (or isn't) returned by the agent.
