Hi,
I will soon be setting up my first MRTG installation, and plan to put
it on a surplus Linux box (Intel Pentium 60, complete with floating point
bug - a collector's item!). I have it already loaded with Red Hat 5.2,
their latest distribution.

If anyone has had experience with MRTG on RH 5.2 It would be great to hear
from you. E.g., any known traps?

Alternatively, does anyone have any strong feelings on the best Linux for
MRTG?

thanks, Steve

P.S.

If anyone is interested here are my early Linux observations:-

1. I found Slackware fine until I tried it on a large (2GB) IDE drive in an
old Compaq server - there it runs out of memory and can't find the Ethernet
card. Red Hat is fine. It also seems that support for Slackware is
dwindling - any comments?

2. Red Hat seems OK, but is very wasteful of disk unless you really know
what to leave out. It is a lot easier to install Slackware on a small drive
(my Big Brother server is another old Compaq with 200MB, and only half used
with Slackware).

3. I tried Debian 2.0.2 but couldn't get the install completed - seems to
need expert knowledge.

4. I've just got SuSE 5.3, but haven't tried it yet.
