No, there's no setting for away notifications in courier. You can do that
with sending copy of mail to specialized programs like vacation etc.

Eventhough it is not possible from courier's default installation, one way that could be done is via perl-filter or python filter, for example:
1- configure you server to provide filter at the smtp session
2- Apply fist filter (perl or python) to every email's quota so for example if user is over cuota then messages will be delayed.
3- Apply second filter (perl or python) this way checking account configs via SQL DB and if filter finds a true flag it should lunch a message saying to external server to cancel/delay delivery and from there get the from header and send a vacation reply.
This was just an example on how to deploy such config with courier, but there could be better ways to do it.
