I'm trying to limit the message size to 6 megabytes and in the main.cf I
set:
message_size_limit = 6000000
maillog shows:
(message size 5414717 exceeds size limit 5242880 of server
127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1])
I wanted the message so I set message_size_limit = 0 and reloaded postfix.
postconf -n |grep size shows:
message_size_limit = 0
so I figured the message should come through as this is suppose to
disable the size limit.
I still get: message size 5415340 exceeds size limit 5242880 of server
127.0.0.1
Is there anyway to fix this?
thx,

Try setting the message size to 6291456 (or 6300000), which is 6Mb.
Regards,
Ben
I still get message size 5410744 exceeds size limit 5242880 of server
127.0.0.1 in the log and the message bounced back to send.
regards,
-Jim
Is there a content filter somewhere in your setup? What is listening on
127.0.0.1? The error you post is coming from the Postfix smtp (client),
not smtpd (server). The Postfix smtp client refuses to deliver a message
to the server listening on 127.0.0.1, because the latter has announced a
SIZE limit of 5242880. For more help, post the output of 'postconf -n',
provide the ENTIRE rejection message that appears in your log. Also,
see DEBUG_README.

Complete postconf -n, master.cf, and unedited log entries would be
helpful. In lieu of that, it looks like maybe you a content filter in
master.cf configured on 127.0.0.1 that has
-o message_size_limit = 5242880
That just a wild guess in absence of seeing your complete config files.

That's not 6 megabytes

5242880 != 6000000

OK

What's running on 127.0.0.1? A virus scanner?

As already pointed out, this error is not from the postfix server, but
from the client...
Are you submitting this message via a webmail client?
Maybe this is a web server/php upload size limitation?

Good catch, forgot about the content filter for viruses, it also had a
size setting.
thx,
-Jim
Correct.
> Are you submitting this message via a webmail client?
Huh?
> Maybe this is a web server/php upload size limitation?
No. What in the log excerpt makes you suspect that?

The 127.0.0.1 IP address - but obviously I replied without considering
all of the evidence, sorry... crawling back in my hole now...
