Hello,

I've a problem with postfix and rsyslog.

Symptoms: Mail gets stuck in the maildrop queue, it takes a lot of time to deliver email.

Treatment: Restarting the rsyslog deamon. This lets the messages get picked up from the maildrop queue very fast.

I've already read http://www.postfix.org/BASIC_CONFIGURATION_README.html#syslog_howto , and did what they suggest:

My rsyslog is full of hyphens, and still from time to time I'll have messages stuck on the maildrop queue, and I still need to restart rsyslog for them to be picked up.

What can I do?

Some other info that might be relevant:

* After I restart rsyslog it would stop writing to the log files. I'll need to reboot the server for rsyslog to resume logging.

* The postfix version is 2.9.6

* The operating system is Ubuntu 12.04

* The server is a VMware VM.

Thanks

My advice is to switch to syslog-ng. Make sure you configure a
"dgram" not "stream" log socket.
