All,

I stupidly deleted some files that crippled my gnumeric install. I
have re-installed gnumeric using the (Slackware 8.1) package, and can
run and use gnumeric but I can neither open nor save to Excel format.
That's all I get here at work so I need to fix this.

Can anyone tell me what part of gnumeric/gnome supplies the Excel
support? I can re-install the entire gnome environment if needed, but
is it needed?

Thanks,

r

Ensure that the excel plugin is enabled.
Tools -> Plugins
from the menus.

Also, you may want to upgrade to gnumeric-1.2.x
It is has significantly improved xls import/export
