Dear All,

I am running postgresql with the version of 9.2.12 on RHEL with 16GB RAM and 4 CPU.We are running all our 5 applications are running on the same database server and getting connection timed out errors.

The present value of max_connections in the postgresql.conf file is 200.

As per the applications support team suggestion , to resolve the connection timed out errors, we would need to increase the max_connection limit to maximum extend as my all the applications are running on the same database server and on the each application , we have configured the the limit is 150 connections.

Could you please help me to understand the below queries before proceeding to increase the limit in our database.

1. Is that parameter max_connections depends on the architecture of the server?
2. What will be maximum limit to increase the max_connections on the Linux server which is configured 16GB RAM, 4CPU with out any performance issues.

Let me know in case if you would need more information.

Thanks and Regards,
Ramesh P
