Base is a collection of modules and 3rd-party software built around
ODF-documents. I made quite a few small and medium databases with it. I
use two of my databases daily.
I used to develop(semi-professional) with MS Access 97/2000.
I'm a main contributor on
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewforum.php?f=13
I'm very familiar with the misconceptions, high flying expectations and
common problems related to Base.

- It is not what it looks like.
- You are the one to design the database backend and nothing in Base
will support your in your very own design decisions.
- Base forms provide very simplistic (thus difficult) tools to built
input tools for relations. But you have to be familiar with the abstract
concepts of the underlying database.
- Many things do not work as you might expect and you have to find your
own way to get the maximum out of the offered tool set.
- It will never be enough for a smart looking database application
unless you start programming, which is extremely difficult.
- Nevertheless, Base is a useful complement to the other office
component. It outperforms every "spreadsheet solution" on the fly. Just
do not expect anything like MS Access. Not even close.

Misleading.

Whilst it provides what it says it provides, it does not do so in a
maker that makes it usable by non-programmers.
