Unread message count w/Nova Launcher

MD Pro groups inbox messages as a "tally" in the notification bar, therefore, Nova Launcher shows an incorrect "unread message" count. For example, MD notification might say "46 new messages"), but Nova launcher reports "1" because there is only one notification. Anyway to address this?
