Hi MailChimp Tech Team,

We are looking for a cause on to why we would experience users being
auto-unsubscribed. Let me explain a little on the situation:

Auto Unsubscribes happen when?
- Individuals are recent subscribers
- We've used employee e-mails which randomly get unsubscribed
- It happens to all sorts of lists
- It happens randomly
- We think it started to happen when we used an API for our Store
front (bebeaming.com)

How are they Opting in?
We have a website on WordPress which uses 2 distinct plugins:
- eStore enables customers to auto-opt in to a list per product.
- eMembers enables costumers to auto-opt in per membership level.
*These normally happen back to back as customers have to register (opt
in #1) and when they buy they get opted into the program's list which
has to do with the product purchased (opt in #2)

Possible Culprits:
- There is a feature which disables Double opt-ins, so costumers do
not receive double the confirmation e-mails, or just the confirmation
e-mails.
- Many of the same users/emails exist on multiple lists, is this an
issue?

I've also contacted the developers of the plug-in to see if they have
had other customers experience the same issue with mail chimp.
Much Help is appreciated.

I wanted to point out the issue again because after additional
troubleshooting and research, We do not think the issue is coming from
the API end.
This conclusion came from observing the following scenario.

We made a new List for testing, using our personal e-mail. We tested a
campaign on this. After viewing the campaign in our e-mail, our
personal e-mail was unsubscribed (mind you we didn't unsubscribe, but
the list we made says we did). When we sent out the exact same
campaign to 400+ e-mails, there were 6 unsubscribes all of which we
contacted directly to see if they had done so; none of these
individuals opted out on their behalf. A lot of our users are local,
friends, family, and friends of friends in a niche circle.

Is there any additional help you could provide in looking into what is
the culprit?
Thank you!

Yeah, this would have nothing to do with using the API or the guesses
you had. You can take a read through articles on unsubscribes and
bounces in the knowledgebase:

http://kb.mailchimp.com/

And then use the links there to contact support if nothing helps.

If this has anything to do with the API, it is a sign that you have some code/processes running that you are not aware of. Otherwise follow my advice in the previous post.
