Hi everyone,

Here's the situation:
I synced an email list in to a list, and after a while the list is changed a bit. To do a clean import, I deleted all users from that list ( in website, not from API ) and tried to re-subscribe them.

But I'm wrong. All users unsubscribed from website cannot be re-subscribed directly. After contact to the support I was told that I has to delete unsubscribed user, one by one, from the website, and then I can re-subscribe them using API.

Does anyone has the same situation before? There are 500 unsubscribed user, it's a terrible job!

You can delete them, one by one, via the API. I have a similar situation and have no problem with this approach. It is assumed, though, that you know who's been deleted and can then submit the API call to delete them one by one.

Something is quite wrong about this explanation. Once a subscriber is
deleted there is *no* restriction on resubscribing them since we have
*no* data left on them.

If you can more accurately explain the situation you are in I may be
able to provide suggestions.

Thank you jesse :-)

Way to reproduce my situation:
1, go to member list page, should be: http://us2.admin.mailchimp.com/lists/members/?id=XXXX
2, choose a user and select "unsubscribe" from the dropdown menu. see the attachment
3, normally re-subscribe this user either from website or from API, you should get this error:
XXX has unsubscribed, and cannot be resubscribed by you. To prevent false spam complaints, they'll need to resubscribe of their own free will.

That's your problem - "unsubscribe" is not the same as "delete". You
can force people back on the list using listSubscribe if you are
testing or legitimately accidentally unsubscribed them, but you need
to be very careful about that b/c forcing someone back on who did
unsubscribe is a great way to rack up abuse complaints and get your
account suspended.

Only listSubscribe can be used? I only tested listBatchSubscribe, thank you for point out the difference :-)

I accidentally unsubscribed MYSELF. I use my account for testing purposes. How do I "force" myself back on using listSubscribe? Where do I find this? Thank you!

Hi Cindy,

listSubscribe() can be found in the documentation for deprecated versions of the API.  If youre looking for the 2.0 equivalent you can find it here: http://apidocs.mailchimp.com/api/2.0/lists/subscribe.php
