Hi,

My client has switched to Mailchimp from a competitor.

They have imported all the data but I am have small problem now when
subscribing new clients to their lists.

From the website, the client is subscribed to 2 lists (a daily
newsletter and a weekly newsletter) - this is working to a degree.

The first list everything is fine but the second list is causing
issues as they have defined each of the address fields as type:
address rather than text.

so address1, address2, address3, postcode, town. county etc. are all
defined as address fields - is it possible to redefine these to text
fields without deleting the merge fields and recreating them (and
losing the associated data)?

Thanks

No, not at this time. While you are fixing that, though, you may want
to take a look at our List Management Best Practices with your client
since it typically would be far better to use one list and segment for
weekly/daily sends.

That would also help reduce the cost of monthly plans if you happen to
be on one of those.

Hi Jesse,

Thanks for the reply.

I had already explained to the client that they should run a single
list and segment it...

Cheers

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to check in to see if anything has changed to make it possible to change the field type on an existing field. We have a list with 900+ members and I would like to change one of the fields from a drop-down to checkboxes (so they can select multiple options). Is there any way to do this without exporting the list and manually rearranging the fields in Excel then importing it as a new list?

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!

They still can't be changed, but you certainly could automate the conversion using the API - you'll need a developer to do that.
