HTML Form AJAX signup

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for some assistance on getting an AJAX signup
implemented.

I have downloaded, scoured and pulled apart the Basic Subscribe form,
but that appears to be based on having a php page as your main page
rather than an html page.

I then went looking for the XML-RPC api, but sourceforge doesn't
appear to host it anymore. So I'm now hoping someone can help me out
as it appears I'm too dumb to figure it out.

I have to admit to not only not being php literate, but also only
generally html/xml competent. That said, I can program and normally
nut things out, but just can't seem hit on the right combo to get this
working.

Can someone point me in the right direction please as to how to get a
plain html page with the relevant form processing via AJAX to signup a
user/customer with mailchimp such that I don't have any page
transition on the transaction please?
