I've been ask to try out Veritas Database Edition for Oracle on a
server that is already running a fully licenced Veritas 3.5 Foundation
Suite. Unpacking the software gives me the following additional
packages:
VRTSdbed
VRTSobgu
VRTSodm
VRTSordoc
VRTSorgui
VRTSvcsvr
VRTSvrw
VRTSvxmsa
VRTSweb
What I really need to tryout is "FlashSnap".. to make read/write
snapshots of oracle databases that can then be remounted back on the
same machine.
Can I just add in these addition packages, and if so, which ones?
Is this possible, or do I need to persuade the boss to get hold of a
separate server for tests (note.. this will be very very difficult,
which is try I am attempting to do this on a "live" development
system.. and no.. I don't want to work weekends this close to
Christmas!)
Thanks
Matt.

To my knowlege, flashsnap does not require any additional packages, just
the VxVM or VxFS packages depending on which style you're using.
The multi-host persistent volume-level snapshots do require additional
licences beyond the base foundation suite licenses. (Like DGSJ).

DataBase Edition also includes a CLI & GUI which is Oracle aware, and
can drive flashsnap intelligently to make copies of Oracle instances.
To get this functionality, you would probably need to install most of
these packages.
