I DID NOT READ THIS WHOLE BOOK so this review is only a
"quickie." This is a fiction book which centers around
obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is very close to a personal
narrative to the author's experience. After reading the first one
third of the book, I stopped reading. This is a fiction book with a
mission to tell about OCD. That is primary, not the story. I hate
books like this, you don't know where to catalog them. Miklowitz
does this every once in a while. It appears that she starts out
thinking, "I will write about this thing" and then center a story
around it. These books have their place but I don't have the time or
shelf space to deal with them.

By the way I got several people who disagreed with part of my
review about "Tulip Touch." That is great! I do not claim to be any
authority, just someone who reads. I hope I do foster discussion
about literature on LMnet. Keep reading.

I must disagree with Fred's review of Kissing Doorknobs by Hesser. I
recently read and reviewed this and I found it haunting, yet quite
interesting. The subject of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is not a
pretty one, however, this is another "realistic" fiction book which
teens can relate to or learn from. The characters were well developed,
especially the parents. Also, the misdiagnosis by several doctors is a
fact of life when dealing with teens with emotional problems. I thought
the story was told with feeling as well as with humor. In my opinion it
does have value for young adults. I

I can't be sure, but I think it was listed at the EMA Conference in NJ
in October as a
"Best Books for '98" or mentioned at one of the workshops where
outstanding books are reviewed.
I don't remember what was said about it, but I think it was reviewed
positively there as well.

Just my opinion,
