For the English-teaching profession, it is crucial to have sources
of ideas to spice up classes--stimulating teaching methods and tips
to keep conversation going. It is always handy to have colleagues who
share their classroom material.

With increasing numbers of English teachers logging on and posting
their offerings on Web sites around the world, the Internet now
offers a vast pool of material, brimming with tried-and-true teaching
ideas.

ELT News is one example. Below are two other interesting Web sites
for English teachers:

Internet TESL Journal

A great place to start your exploration of cyber resources is the
Internet TESL Journal ( http://www.aitech.ac.jp/~iteslj/ ), a
monthly Web publication for teachers of English as a second language
(TESL).

Featuring articles, lesson plans, classroom handouts, teaching ideas
and links, it makes a great resource for anyone in the profession.

One of the highlights of the site is the "Activities for ESL (English
as a second language) Students" page which contains more than 500
self-study quizzes contributed by English teachers from around the
world.

The site also includes comprehensive links that are useful for both
teachers and students of English. There are lists of useful
questions to ask during conversation practice and jokes to amuse
students.

Linguistic Funland

The Linguistic Funland site ( http://www.linguistic-funland.com/ )
covers topics related to linguistics--a broader subject that
includes language education. It includes an excellent section on
English teaching.

The site is essentially a comprehensive collection of links to
linguistics-related sites. In the TESL section, there are not only
links to a multitude of related sites, but a search function that
provides a list of links related to your interests.

If you feel the need to consult fellow teachers about your work,
Funland's electronic discussion list will help connect you with
colleagues throughout the world. There is also a "help" page to
guide you in joining cyber-discussion groups.
