Dear All,

I hope that you are well. I just wanted to share three upcoming events that may be of interest, co-organized by CSDS.

We welcome all participants to join us either in person or via online. Registration is required for each event via the web pages given above.

Best wishes,

Carl

  • On Thursday 24 November, from 9:00 – 16:30 (ICT), CSDS is co-organizing with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI), and Office of the United Nations High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) a public seminar on climate change, human mobility/ migration and human rights in Southeast Asia. Speakers will discuss on how climate change, people’s mobility and human rights are connected; what are the actionable policies and on-the-ground approaches to protect and promote human rights; and what are the implications for ‘loss and damage’ and climate justice?  Further details and speaker agenda are available here: https://www.csds-chula.org/announcement/2022/11/2/upcoming-event-climate-change-mobility-and-human-rights-24-november-2022
  • On Monday 28 November, from 9:00 – 16:30 (ICT), CSDS is co-organizing with the China Dialogue Trust a public seminar on climate futures, sustainable transformations, and the role of China in Southeast Asia. The seminar will ask: After #COP27, what next for Southeast Asia? What might a green and just recovery look like, & who gets to define that vision? What do sustainable transformations mean for water, energy, & climate? What role has China played to date? What might come next? Further details and speaker agenda are available here: https://www.csds-chula.org/announcement/2022/11/21/upcoming-event-towards-a-green-and-just-recovery-in-southeast-asia-28-november-2022
  • On Tuesday 6 December, from 13:00 – 14:30, we will host a lively launch and discussion of the just-published book “Turning Land into Capital: Development and Dispossession in the Mekong Region.” Emeritus Professor Pasuk Phongpaichit will give a commentary on the book. Four of the book’s editors/ authors - Emeritus Prof. Philip Hirsch, Kevin Woods, Natalia Scurrah, and Carl Middleton - will then discuss the book and its significance in a panel discussion. Topics will include land in relation to geopolitics, legacies of colonialism, socialism, neoliberalism and ideologies of development, as well as strategies to achieve land justice.  Further details are available here: https://www.csds-chula.org/announcement/2022/11/9/upcoming-event-land-into-capital-book-launch-and-discussion-6-december-2022
