IDL and HDF5

I just wanted to report back to you about IDL and HDF5. The letter
attached below is in german, so for all non-german-speakers: According
to CREASO, the european distributor of IDL, IDL is currently supporting
HDF5 1.8.3 - you need the latest version (7.1) and a patch for it. The
next version of IDL, to be released in 2010, should provide support for
1.8.4 (which is the current version according to the HDF5-page right now).
Since the differences between 1.8.4 and 1.8.3 according to
http://www.hdfgroup.org/ftp/HDF5/current/src/hdf5-1.8.4-RELEASE.txt seem
minor to me IDL should be able to handle our HDF5-files well - emphasis
on should.
Ah, I should mention that CREASO offered help/support it we should have
difficulties with our implementations.

Nach meinem Gespr�ch mit Bill Okubo dem IDL Produktmanager von ITT VIS
kann ich Ihnen folgendes in Bezug auf IDL und HDF5 Unterst�tzung mitteilen.
Es gibt einen Patch f�r IDL 7.1 zur Unterst�tzung HDF5 1.8.3.. Die
geplante HDF5 Version 1.8.4. wird in der n�chsten IDL Version in 2010
unterst�tzt werden.
Bitte lassen Sie uns Wissen, wenn Sie weitere Fragen zu dem Thema haben
oder bei der Implementierung auf Probleme sto�en.
