after our 1st workshop at the ESRF entitled "HDF5 as hyperspectral data
analysis format" (http://www.esrf.eu/events/conferences/hdf5) and the
2nd workshop at the PSI about NeXus as a standard data format at
synchrotrons (http://lns00.psi.ch/nexus2010/) a 3rd workshop is being
organized at DESY now - please see below.
This workshop aims to coordinate the efforts of the german
PNI-institutes, but also tries to achieve european and international
consensus. To achieve this aim we would like to have participants from
all major photon, neutron or ion sources around the world, so please
register. The workshop itself is free.
Cheers, Gerd

Dear Colleagues
We have now settled the date for our upcoming workshop on "Standard Data
formats for Experiments with Photons, Neutrons, and Ions". It will be
held from Wednesday, October 27 to Friday, October 29 2010 at DESY. You
can register on the following Webpage:
https://indico.desy.de/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=3357
Of course we are going to discuss implementation issues on the workshop,
but the main part of it will be devoted to collecting data items which
are important for the various key experimental techniques and to discuss
how to structure it. The key techniques are
1. Protein Crystallography
2. Micro-Tomography
3. Scattering (SAS/WAS/GISAS)
4. Microfluorescence and Micro-XAS
It is worthwile that many of the key persons involved in these
techniques (instrument scientist, major researchers) participate in this
workshop. Therefore, I would kindly ask you to spread this information
to those persons which are not on my mailing list and/or name these
persons to me to let me inform them.
Thank you for your co-operation and best regards
Rainer Gehrke

I'm puzzled what file container format is being planned. Is it HDF5,
NeXus on HDF5, or something else? The call for participants says
nothing about this point but it is important for us to determine who
should attend from APS.
We have plans to send scientists to participate on the data dictionary
discussions. We are trying to identify which software engineer would be
most appropriate to send.
Thanks,
Pete
