I've just been reading the summary of the recent workshop (thank you
for the nice review), and was thinking that google wave would be an
excellent venue for discussing issues and producing documentation like
this. For those of you who are not familiar with wave, think real-time
collaborative document preparation (many simultaneous editors) with
history tracking and in-line discussion (which can be pruned when
consensus is reached). There are a few short blog entries at
http://googlewave.blogspot.com/ that may be of interest. There was
also a short article about Wave's potential impact on scientific
collaboration in a recent edition of Nature (Maybe October or November
2009)
Google wave is still in beta development, and access is limited. But
it is already possible to add the mahid google group as a participant
on a wave and then everyone in that group (who has a wave account) can
participate.
So out of curiosity, how many participants in this list 1) have wave
accounts and/or 2) would be interested in trying to use wave for this
particular collaboration?
Darren
I do have wave account, and think that wave might be useful *but* I feel
uncomfortable about the requirement of a google account for using it.

I do not have a wave account yet, but it sounds like this technique is
more helpful than just having a discussion with a lot of people via
Skype or something like that - so I would like to try it out. Those
things are great if we are at a point where we have something to discuss
and maybe decide ... but before we reach that point I guess we should
first try to accumulate some things, e.g. work on a few NeXus
application definitions. For that purpose, something like a wiki seems
fine to me. Matt proposed that we could use his wiki for such a purpose.
I am always a little bit afraid not to push anybody who is interested
out of the group just because he does not like to have a google account
or something like that. For that reason, I am always fine if people
"just" use the mailinglist, as long as we are getting their input. I
would volunteer to enter their input in a Wiki, e.g. (depends of course
on the volume ;) ).
Cheers, Gerd
