Christmas in the Village is part of the on-going re-establishment of an arts, culture, business and entertainment district at 24th and Lake envisioned in the North Omaha Village Revitalization Plan facilitated by the Empowerment Network, OEDC and community partners over 12 years ago. It has served as one of the major catalysts for the development occurring in the historic 24th and Lake district.
Christmas in the Village is one of the fastest and growing events in North Omaha and is part of the ongoing North Omaha Village Zone Revitalization Plan and rebirth of the arts, culture, and entertainment district at 24th and Lake. Christmas in the Village started as a vision from Willie Barney and was initially designed in partnership with Vicki Quaites-Ferris, Deborah Bunting, Stacy Henry, Michael Maroney and the OEDC (Omaha Economic Development Corporation) team.
Just curious as my family has always celebrated on the 24th rather than the 25th as we've always had our Christmas dinner together on the 24th and opened our non-Santa presents on the evening. As my friend circle has grown over the past few years I'm seeing that most of the people I know do all of their traditional stuff on the 25th.
Mostly on the 25th. On the 24th it's usually a regular day of sorts until night, when we go to church and then our neighbors, before going home and opening about one present each. The 25th is when we open everything else and celebrate with my dad's side of the family coming over. The day when we celebrate with my mother's side varies on the year.
Both. We exchange gifts between one another and we go out to the pub on the 24th and on the 25th my sister and I get our 'Santa' presents as you would call them, eat Christmas Dinner and then we'd go visit relatives and stuff.
Both, with the 28th as a third celebration and in changing constellations, because I have a number of nieces and nephews who tend to make family meeting a bit too lively in combination, especially if the weather is too bad to kick them outside for a while when they overwind. ;)
We have a "Christmas Dinner" (In reality it's just a somewhat larger meal than normal, not even anything special. Like this year we're having Ham and homemade Mac and Cheese) on the 24th, and then we have actual Christmas-y things happening on the 25th. Although, my family and I have now made a tradition out of seeing the new Star Wars each year on either Christmas Eve or right before it, so I guess that's a thing now.
On a different note, when I was a lot younger, I would often make a fuss out of presents, which would cause my parents to allow me to open one of them on the 24th to get me to stop. I remember one year we did them all on the 24th, although I think that was for different reasons.
Technically both? My family celebrates on the 24th. We have a big dinner, all the adults get together talk while all the kids usually run around and complain about not being able to open the presents till midnight. We usually watch movie, do some party games, light fireworks, etc. and once midnight hits we start unwrapping the presents.
We have Chinese Food, go to church and do most of our presents the evening of the 24th, on the 25th we get together and have a home cooked feast and have some family time in the afternoon, the morning of the 25th I get to open any presents mom got me
We celebrate with just my parents and siblings (sometimes grandparents too) on the 25th, then on the 26th either my grandparents and my uncle with his family come here to celebrate or we go with my grandparents to my uncle's family to celebrate.
On the 24th it's tradition for families to get all together (although that doens't happen often with me) and eat cod, potatoes, cabbage, eggs etc., we open the presents at midnight, on the 25th, at a different house of the 24th, we get together again and eat turkey.
After the holidays, the wood from the Mayor's Christmas Tree is made into commemorative ornaments, which are sold the following year to benefit the Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund. Visit Crown Center Customer Service, Level 2 of the Crown Center Shops, to purchase your 2023 Mayor's Christmas Tree Ornament beginning November 24th.
USPS had said to us that on Friday, most locations will be offering delivery, but not pick up and most post offices will be closed for drop off, although it's up to the local Postmaster for a final decision if they would like to stay open.
Hi @zamo-zuan thank you for your post. We are aware that some post offices and areas will have reduced hours or pick up on December 24th. For sellers impacted by shorter hours, you will be protected for late shipment as long as the package receives an acceptance scan by end of day Monday, December 27.
Use the tools that eBay makes available: To avoid being expected to ship on Friday, you can briefly extend your handling time by 1 day, or use a 2-day "Time away" to block sales and enjoy the weekend.
The usps website when doing a pickup does NOT have Dec 24th grayed out (not a working/pick up day) so therefore, it is open in most areas. I'm sure they allow the 'smaller in the woods' type ones close (and some are independent) but most will be open and it IS a working day.
This is the part I'm getting conflicting information in, as the person I spoke to said what I had stated in the OP. Then in the reference link, I'm not sure if our area is considered "limited" or not as the website only shows the hours for the current week.
In our experience this doesn't mean much as even on non-holiday days we have daily pick ups scheduled, that does not guarantee the pick up will arrive (we had to drop off ourselves 2x in the past week).
Yeah, and that's also a source of the confusion. As for the last 3 years, our PO was only open until 1 on Christmas Eve, and we had to drop off (they did NOT do pick ups on those days). And that was not in this rarer situation where Christmas falls on the Saturday.
Wish there was a clear answer from USPS, as New Years Eve they're clear about, but Christmas Eve is up in the air for USPS. And I'm not sure if eBay will assist if there's issues with Christmas Eve with our PO.
Perhaps it would be better to start a separate thread that would address your issues. I wouldn't expect eBay Community Team members to respond in any constructive way to questions about USPS rate hikes, though, since eBay has no control over those.
I'm printing labels now and I see that December 24th is not currently an option for USPS labels on Ebay, but it should be. It has December 23, December 27, and December 28 as the options. I anticipate sending out packages on the 24th but as of now that date is not available for USPS shipping labels. I hope that will be changed.
Sellers purchasing labels today can choose the 12/23 date and ship on 12/24, but sellers purchasing labels tomorrow will only be able to select the 12/27 date. If they ship tomorrow with 12/27 labels then their packages will probably get picked up by the APV system for the holiday surcharge which is going to result in tons of micro charges and confusion through MP when sellers (inevitably) don't realize why they're being charged.
