Hadith on Witr Salah
As mentioned in our previous guide on how to pray salah, every prayer is an opportunity for a Muslim to invest in deepening his or her relationship with their creator. As kids we may have viewed prayers as a duty or a chore but if we shift our perspective and take the time to understand why we offer prayer then we may be more disciplined and consistent with our prayers.
The consensus among the jurists is the Witr should be completed in odd number of rakats. This can be three, five, seven, or even nine. The most common practice is to pray three rakats for Witr and there are two ways this can be completed.
It is the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) to pray two by two and finish Witr with one rakah so an odd numbered of rakats is completed. [4] In another hadith it was mentioned that the Prophet prayed five, seven, and even nine rakats in one salat and did not separate them with taslim. [5]
If you wish to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet you can recite the Witr duas above. But this is not obligatory. You can substitute with any dua if you find the ones above difficult to learn. An easier one to begin with is rabanna atina fid dunya dua. It is, however, recommended to complete Witr according to Sunnah for the most blessings. This includes taking the the time out to memorize the qunut dua.
For my Witr, I never forget to pray dua-e-qunoot except tonight. As I was going for sujood I realized i forgot that prayer. Pls advise what I could do for it now and if I catch any mistakes on time on the future.
JazakAllah Khair
Keep trying to learn as much as you can by taking the first few words of the sura/du`a at a time and repeating them until you have memorized them thoroughly. Thereafter proceed to take a few more words and do the same. Then join the two sets of words and repeat the combination. Keep doing this and join a third set of words and master the sura from the beginning upto that point. Continue in this manner until the sura is complete. May Allah Ta`ala make it easy for you.
Remember also to avoid all types of sin and disobedience of Allah Ta`ala. Imam al-Shafi`i said: I complained to my teacher of Waki` regarding my weak memory. He advised me to abandon sin for verily knowledge is a nur from Allah and the nur of Allah is not given to a sinner.

Dua, also called supplication, is the best medium to communicate Allah (SWT). Allah never communicate his obedient in actual i.e. by voice but whenever you make dua, no matter in how much severe grief you are, you get an internal peace. Allah makes your way easy and directs you Hidayah to solve those problems. Here you will learn the key dua for prayer you should learn or memorize.
Hazrat Aisha, the mother of believers, narrated that once she asked to our beloved prophet (saw), that what should I say in my dua when I come upon Laylatul-Qadr? Prophet Muhammad (saw) said the above dua which means "O Allah, you are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me." (Sahih (Darussalam))
"All compliments, all physical prayer and all monetary worship are for Allah. Peace be upon you, Oh Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Peace is on us and all righteous slaves of Allah. I bear witness that no one is worthy of worship except Allah. And I bear witness that Muhammad (saw) is His slave and Messenger."
"O, Allah! We implore You for help and beg forgiveness of You and believe in You and rely on You and extol You and we are thankful to You and are not ungrateful to You, and we alienate and forsake those who disobey You. O, Allah! You alone do we worship and for You do we pray and prostrate and we betake to please You and present ourselves for the service in Your cause, and we hope for Your mercy and fear Your chastisement. Undoubtedly, your torment is going to overtake infidels O Allah!"
To perform qunoot, simply join your hands as you would in a regular dua and recite what you want. If you perform the qunoot during an obligatory prayer, you must recite the qunoot in Arabic. In the qunoot, you can say whatever dua you like. It is naturally recommended to recite duas found in the Holy Quran. Reciting a qunoot from the Quran is special because you are using the words recommended by Allah (SWT) to ask for your needs. There are so many qunoot duas from the Quran you can recite. Here are X that are short and easy to remember:
We are in dire need of our little acts of worship and good deeds to be accepted by Allah (SWT). Our good deeds will shield us from the fire on the day of judgement and may even prevent our bad deeds from harming us. This dua was recited by Prophets Ibrahim and Ishmael after they finished building the Kaabah and is ideal to recite in your Isha qunoot to ensure your good deeds for that day are accepted as you complete your last obligatory prayer for the day.
We all want Allah (SWT) to forgive our slips. The following qunoot dua recited sincerely whilst feeling genuine guilt for our mistakes can ensure we are forgiven and start the next day with a blank slate.
