Big news for Instagram fans: the app is making a major change to its navigation bar in February. Starting next month, the Create shortcut is moving from the top navigation to the center of the bottom bar, a spot currently occupied by the Reels button. The Reels shortcut will shift to the right, replacing the Shop button.
"The navigation bar at the bottom of the app will now have the shortcut for creating content in the center and Reels to the right," the company added.
It added, "As part of this change, the Instagram Shop tab will be removed. "
This step comes as a reversal, as before reels were the prime attraction of the photo-sharing app, the prime spot had a plus sign (+) for creating content and uploading pictures and videos. So, when it was replaced with reels, the app faced strong views from its users.
The Reels section gets the spot of the new post button of old, and the Shop tab replaces the heart-shaped activity icon. The two older shortcuts remain available, though: They've been moved to the top right corner of the app bar, next to the DM/Messenger button. Some other variations have been floating around earlier, including one where the search button was put up top.
The new Shop section isn't a full-blown integrated online shop. Instead, it lets you browse through a brand's products and gives you a "View on Website" shortcut that links to a store. You'll also find celebrities and influencers in this section to "get inspired" by them, as Instagram puts it. Tried to post a picture with this post but it won't let me upload it - the box says "Use accessibility shortcut?" as the title of the message, then has info about pushing the mute button to enable the screen reader. Then at the bottom it has two choices to toggle between, "turn off shortcut" or "use shortcut" but we can't get to the box to toggle between those choices.
Fyi to chime in. For me, the Roku mute button on the side keeps triggering this accessibility shortcut. I never configured that to trigger my tv (Samsung). None of my other remotes did that. Very annoying.
I've worked on a couple of EMs now but there is one problem that I consistently have trouble fixing. That problem is score reels that bind when turning over to digit 9. I can clean the entire assembly so everything is bright and shiny. I can adjust the switches (0 position, 1-8 position and 9 position) until the gaps are perfect and I am blue in the face. Usually the reel works perfectly from 0-8. However, 50% of the time, the reel will still have trouble clocking over to 9.
I typically have this problem with reels that have a circuit board attached. If I remove the circuit board and hold the reel in place on the spindle, the reels move much more smoothly, and sometimes the problem goes away. However, I can't reinstall a score reel without a circuit board! I always clean the board to make sure there's no dry grease on it.
I normally don't like taking "shortcuts" but I find that taking a few turns off the plunger return spring is like magic. The reels snap from digit to digit very nicely whenever I do that. It's fantastic. So, is this actually a "shortcut" as suggested by Clay's guide? Or is this a legitimate way to solve the issue of reels hanging at 9? If anyone can suggest what I might be doing wrong when cleaning and adjusting these reels, I'd appreciate any feedback.
