Good ideas! $104,000 for starters seems like a decent price. The restoration could be at least that much as well. Kirk and I will definitely donate something towards the cause and be happy to do it. We would need someone somewhat local to supervise, I would think.
Sincerely,
Shannon Magleby

I will ask him and see if he can help us locate the owner.DarilOn Sat, Jun 23, 2018 at 5:49 PM, Curt Mags <krismy...@gmail.com> wrote:Daril,That's great news! I was wondering if Devin happened to know the owner or have some way to contact him. We need to determine if he's willing to sell (or preferably donate) the property, before we can move forward. He could get tax deduction if he donates it to the Foundation. Thanks for your response.Curt MaglebyOn Fri, Jun 22, 2018, 4:35 AM Daril Magleby <darilm...@gmail.com> wrote:All,We currently have around $9,000 in our Hans Olson Magleby Memorial Foundation Account. I love it. This is exactly the kind of thing that American towns need. I am willing to contribute and participate. Instead of trying to generate a profit, perhaps it could be donated to the city or owned by some sort of nonprofit group so that it wouldn't be generating a tax bill.

Hello,
Everytime I stand in front of Hans Magleby's old furniture shop on Main Street in Monroe, I think, "It would be a shame if this got torn down."
I sent a letter via snail-mail to the owner in Texas and have not received a response. I checked the tax records, and it appears that the shop and property are worth about $24,000.
I think it would be nice to restore the shop and make a small memorial Park next to it in memory of Hans and his family.
I just wanted to get a conversation going and hear your thoughts and ideas on the subject.
Additionally, Hans' son Orson's two-story mercantile store is next door. I contacted the owner of that building as well and he said he would be willing to sell that and the lot next to it for $79,000. (Orson is my great-grandfather).
Once restored, the buildings and park would need to somehow bring in revenue. So I'd also be interested to hear if anyone would have ideas on that front.
I appreciate any thoughts you are willing to share on the matter.
Sincerely,
Curt Magleby

Or, maybe seek to have the Hans O. tradition preserved in the Dinwoody shop at the Historical Park in Salt Lake. From the building in Monroe, we could use materials from the shop to build a small version of the shop on the plot next to the original site?
Just thoughts.

Just a thought, because all I have are thoughts and no money. If the current owner is not interested in selling the furniture store, would he be willing to sell the building? Perhaps to be moved to the lot next door? When I was young, my friend's dad worked in moving houses and buildings. They have moved many historical buildings to sites around Utah. For instance, This is the Place Historical State Park. He moved a lot of those buildings. There is a Dinwoody workshop there. Hans O. worked for them when he first came. It might give some ideas about restoring the building.
As I said, just a thought.

Or move the building to the City park with the idea of a town museum?

Well Cousins…………..I hate to dampen the enthusiasm much here but if you look at the building closely it is constructed primarily of masonry (stone) and could certainly be relocated…………stone by stone as was the “London Bridge” in Lake Havasu Arizona from a location in England. Each stone was numbered, crated up, shipped, and reinstalled as a facing on the actual structural bridge over a portion of the Lake. Lots and Lots of dollarsJ!
I also have wondered, as has David, as to the current legal status of the H.O. Magleby Foundation. I am not aware of any efforts to maintain the legal status of the organization unless Kirk Magleby has done something on going from its inception.
