This interesting document is from Bonnie Bishop whose line is V.R. Magleby (1916-2009)/Heber Lorenzo Magleby (1874 – 1941)/Hans Olsen Magleby (1835 – 1903). Huimanguillo is a town in Tabasco, Mexico. Benjamin Cluff, Jr. was the third Principal of Brigham Young Academy and first President of Brigham Young University. Cluff and Heber Magleby were on the colorful Cluff expedition to find Zarahemla in Colombia 1900 – 1902. Thirty people started out from Provo amid much fanfare in 1900. Only a handful returned bedraggled in 1902 after finding Colombia in the throes of civil war. Cluff and Magleby were among the stalwarts who stayed with it and traveled all the way to Colombia and back. Heber kept a detailed journal of the expedition that today is in the BYU Library Special Collections with a typescript copy in the UofU Library. The “S” in Frank McAlister’s name stands for “Snow.” He was Lorenzo Snow’s grandson. Heber Magleby was not paid everything this letter offers. The Mexican Revolution (1910 – 1920) interfered with business to such an extent that when Heber finally returned to Utah and met with company officials in Salt Lake, they did not have the money to pay him his back wages and he returned to Monroe basically penniless.

Much more to this story. Thanks to Bonnie for sending this along. Every descendant of H.O. Magleby has reason to be proud of Heber Lorenzo Magleby.
