Magleby’s
Fresh announced today it plans to open a new restaurant in Nauvoo, Ill. —
its first location outside of Utah. The Nauvoo location will operate inside the
Zion’s Mercantile Hotel across the street from the Nauvoo Temple of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“We’re thrilled at the opportunity to serve the residents and visitors off Nauvoo,” said Ken Palmer. “Nauvoo is a beautiful community with a wonderful history, and it’s an honor to become a part of it.”
Magleby’s first opened its doors in Provo, Utah, nearly 30 years ago, thanks to the gentleman now famously adored simply as “Doc” and his wife, Lenora Parkinson. With funding from some great friends and a kitchen drawer full of cherished family recipes, Doc and Lenora created an iconic fixture of fine dining in the heart of the Wasatch front. Eleven years ago, Doc’s son, Richard Parkinson, and Ken Palmer opened the first Magleby’s Fresh restaurant in Provo. Magleby’s Fresh offers most of the same famous Magleby’s menu items but served in a more casual atmosphere. Richard and Ken, along with partner, Chris White, have decided to expand the Magleby’s Fresh concept to a few new locations, building slowly on the restaurants’ strong success in Utah County.
The new Nauvoo Magleby’s Fresh plans to open around December 1 with the cutting of one of its famous Chocolate Cakes. Sherry Saint, a long-time resident of Nauvoo, will be the restaurant’s General Manager. The restaurant will be a part of the Historic Zions Mercantile and expects to offer wedding catering and eventually breakfast and dinner in addition to its regular lunch business.
