The H.O. Magleby Memorial Foundation is sponsoring the 2010 Magleby Family Reunion on the Mountain
Where: Monroe, Utah and Magleby Reservoir on Monroe Mountain (go to Koosharem and follow the signs put up by Paul Magleby (Merrill, John Bert, John Ephraim)
When: Friday, August 6, 2010 through Sunday, August 8, 2010 (stay as long as you can)
Who is invited: Anyone who has been born, married, or adopted into the family of Hans Olsen Magleby
Cost: Zero
Sanitation Facilities on the Mountain: Porta Potties brought in specifically for the event
What to bring:
· A jacket (the reservoir is at 9.000 feet elevation)
· Mosquito repellant, sun screen, etc.
· Food for meals other than Saturday morning breakfast
· Fishing gear (this is a private lake, no fishing license required)
· Camping gear including stools or chairs for the programs
Lodging options:
· Tents, campers, trailers, RV’s (no hookups) around the reservoir up on the mountain
· Tents, campers, trailers, RV’s (no hookups) at the Magleby Ranch down in the valley just outside of Koosharem – see photo embedded below
· Koosharem has a few motel rooms available
· Bowery Haven at Fish Lake has motel rooms, cabins and an RV Park (full hookups)
· A number of options are available along Highway 24 toward Capitol Reef in Loa, Lyman, Bicknell, Torrey and Teasdale
· Monroe Inn in Monroe offers a bed and breakfast
· Richfield has over a dozen motels
How far is it from Koosharem to the Reservoir? About 9 miles on dirt road – see map embedded below
Do I need a 4 wheel drive? No, a regular car can make it. Trailers and RV’s are no problem.
Itinerary:
· Friday, 11:00 a.m. Manti Temple Session (Manti is 2 hours from the campsite)
· Friday 3:00 p.m. Magleby Monroe Homes Tour led by Mary Nebeker (Neal, Alma) departs from Monroe City Park. Note this is NOT Monrovian Park up the canyon, this is the park in the center of town. The Alma Magleby family is having their reunion in that same park earlier in the day. Mary has been doing some interesting original research in the Sevier County land records and has some new details to share about homes, farms, ranches and businesses.
· Friday, 4:30 p.m. caravan leaves Monroe for Koosharem and then up to Magleby Reservoir. This trip will take about one hour.
· Friday, 5:30 p.m. fish planting in Magleby Reservoir directed by Dale Magleby (John Bert Jr., John Bert, John Ephraim) Kids will love this.
· Friday, 6:00 p.m. everyone is on their own for dinner.
· Friday 7:00 p.m. campfire program will include campfire songs led by Linda Magleby (David, Alma Woodruff Jr. (Spike), Alma Woodruff, Alma), an illustrated tour of Denmark narrated by Dale Magleby, and a report on exciting recent genealogical research by Warren Bittner (Nancy, Robert Christensen, Emma).
· Friday 9:00 p.m. caravan back down to Koosharem for anyone who won’t be staying the night on the mountain
· Saturday, 8:30 a.m. sheep herder’s breakfast prepared by Daril Magleby (Dallin, John Bert, John Ephraim)
· Saturday, 8:30 a.m. Magleby stories by Kirk Magleby (Richard, Reed, John Ephraim), and others.
· Saturday, 9:30 a.m. Activities for the young include four wheeling, boating, fishing, horseback riding and paint ball. Thanks to Paul, Ted (John Bert Jr., John Bert, John Ephraim), and others.
· Saturday, 10:00 a.m. Magleby mountain historical tour with live and tape recorded commentary from Dallin Magleby (John Bert, John Ephraim), Billy Bell (Delphia, Alma) and others. Come learn about Magleby Pass, Magleby Flat, etc.
· Saturday noon everyone is on their own for lunch.
· Saturday afternoon continue morning activities.
· Saturday dinner everyone is on their own.
· Saturday 7:00 p.m. more stories around the campfire
· Sunday 10:00 a.m. morningside on the mountain with testimony sharing, or Church Services at Fish Lake
