Yesterday several hundred people gathered at Magleby Construction HQ in Lindon, UT to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company. Paul was there, of course, as the founder, accompanied by his wife, Cathy and their sons, Matthew, Scott, and Chad. Daril and Dana, Venice and Michael, and I (Kirk) were there from the John Ephraim branch. Spencer and Curt were there from the Orson branch. Paul’s brother, John, was there. There may have been other family members as well I did not meet. Extended family members fortunate enough to live in a Magleby built home include at minimum Eric and Monette (Jacob branch), Daril and Dana (John Ephraim branch), and David and Linda (Alma branch). For decades as Shannon and I have travelled the world, we have heard the familiar question “Are you related to the restaurant?” Hal (Alma branch) founded the restaurant. Increasingly in recent years, the question is “Are you related to the construction company?” What Paul and now Chad are building is a credit to us all.
Many of you have copies of the painting Frank and Middie’s daughter, Hillary, did of the HO Magleby furniture store in Monroe. Cathy commissioned that painting, and she owns the original which was on display yesterday. That painting shows a half round sunburst capital atop each of the side pillars. Paul now owns one of those capitals, restored to its original glory, inscribed with a small plaque honoring him (Paul) for continuing the HO Magleby tradition of fine craftsmanship. Those of you who have been in the Manti Temple have seen HO’s superb work in the freestanding circular staircases.
