Moderator's Note: David Blyth Magleby, distinguished political scientist and former Dean of BYU's largest college, is the son of Alma Woodruff, Jr. (Spike) (1920 - 2009) who was the son of Alma Woodruff (1895 - 1961) who was the son of Alma (1870 - 1934) who was the son of Hans Olsen (1835-1903).
On the urging of my son, Richard Savage Magleby, I (Kirk Alder Magleby) went to Payson yesterday and purchased the Larsen & Magleby table. It is a gem of a piece dating from 1862 - 1864, the time period Larsen & Magleby was in business on the west side of Main Street in Salt Lake (about where the Kearns Building stands today at 136 South Main). I am not certain who the Larsen was in the partnership. My research indicates it was likely Lars Larsen (1838 - 1901) who had a number of connections with H.O. throughout his lifetime.
We do know that Oluf Christian Larsen (1836 - 1929) went to work with the newly-founded firm as an employee in October, 1862 as soon as he arrived in the valley. Oluf and his new bride, Emelia, lived with H.O. and Gjertrud Marie for a few months while they were getting established in Utah. While on his first mission, H.O. confirmed Oluf a member of the Church in Drammen, Norway on April 8, 1857. Oluf and H.O. both served second missions to Scandinavia beginning in 1881. Upon their return, they married sisters. H.O. married Ane (1857 - 1934) and Oluf married Johannah (1860 - 1948).

Hi Kirk,
In the fall BYU Magazine there is an article about David B. Magleby being honored as distinguished faculty lecturer. I’ve attached the article and thought you might like to send it to the Magleby Google groups.
Thank you for sending the information and pictures of the antique table that H.O. Magleby made. That is a great find and a real treasure. At least it is nice to have pictures of the table and the information about it.
Many thanks,
Janet Pollei
