Greetings to MAGIP -

There is no indication the subject has been discussed on this listserv, but some of you are likely already aware of this new product.

Beginning last year, USGS has been producing and publishing seamless 1-meter digital-elevation-model (DEM) 10 km x 10 km tiles.  The USGS website provides an introduction to this new product here.  An informative article from the USGS Science Data Catalog is found here and is worth reading if you are interested in this product.

As shown on the introductory page in the caption to Figure 3, data from previous individual projects is combined "prioritizing the most recent or highest quality lidar dataset."  That page also includes a link to details on the blending method used.  The expressed goal is to eventually provide a seamless DEM product covering the entire conterminous / contiguous United States.

A georeferenced PDF map showing the area in the Wyoming - Montana region covered to date is available here.  The green squares indicate the individual tiles making up the coverage area.

The rotated orientation of those tiles is because they are projected in an Albers equal-area conic projection covering the entire lower 48 (EPSG: 6350) and the area shown is a considerable distance from the central meridian of that projection.

All the data shown on the PDF map is available for download from TNM (The National Map) Download (v2.0).  Under Data, select "Elevation Products", then "Seamless 1-meter DEM".

TNM Download has been sort of quirky lately, so if it does not work at first you may try again later.

The seamless 1-meter data is also available from the USGS Amazon Web Services (AWS) site.  One method of obtaining that data from AWS is detailed here.
