The debate is whether we should have fortune telling or not.
Pros:
- It's mysterious and exciting
- Fits well with Halloween
-doesn't take up too much space

Cons:
- Not worth it if we have to pay (Although I'm asking her to dress up and act professionally)
-Unappealing to some people

What do you guys think?

I think we should stick with just one, regardless.

I think it would be more cost efficient if there were some members willing to act/dress up as fortune tellers.  We could even make a crystal ball out of a goldfish bowl or something and have rehearsed mystical answers ;) and then give fortune cookies out after.  Might not as be as mysterious and exciting as a professional fortune teller, but it's kind of funny and cute!

I agree with Kat. Let's stick with one since we already offered deal to them. I personally like the idea of having fortune tellers!

Instead of having a fortune teller, why not just have a couple people dressed up as ones and use the idea that someone mentioned during the committee meeting, where fortunes are wrapped around lollipops. Then as the guests are exiting the yacht, they can be handing them out...that would cover "party favors" and give them a "fun" fortune..

I like the idea of having a fortune teller and I hope we do have one or some in the end regardless if they're real or fake. We're bringing something unique and different to Masquerade Ball and I love up :)!

I think it'd be more cost-efficient to have one.
In regards to asking people to dress up as fortune tellers, you'd have to make sure they'd be willing to do this because this would prevent them from either dressing up in a costume or semi-formal and the volunteers would need to be willing participants for this.

You could always change out of your fortune teller clothes.

Yeah, when I was thinking of fortune teller clothes I was imagining a robe or something over what you'd wear to the dance.  And maybe a turban if we could swing it (but it would mess up some peoples hair, so maybe not). Also, I realized that you can't bring food onto the yacht so the fortune cookies are nixed :(. Yes, I can see why people might not be willing to play a fortune teller...but wouldn't that be more fun than coat check? (Sorry, coat check :p)

I was imagining gypsy clothes with big skirts and bandanas and lots of jewelry. Heavy eyeshadow and curly hair etc.

haha well ideally, yes.  I guess we'll have to rent the professional then

Not necessarily. I think it'll be fun. I have skirts/peasant tops that she can probably borrow and scarves. Also I'm sure people have long necklaces she can borrow, or if not, I have them. So in a way, it's volunteer, which is why I still suggest paying because I feel like i'm asking a lot from her.

Wait, sorry, who? I think I'm missing something here haha.  I was under the impression that we were deciding between a professional fortune teller or to not have one/other options

No, we were deciding whether to have Ivy, who is not "professional", tell fortunes. I have asked volunteers to do this in the past, and only she and one other person got back to me. Ivy has been the only one responding so I decided to have her tell fortunes since we have decided to have only one fortune teller. We're working out the specifics of the arrangement right now.
